Students who have already completed Year 12 (or equivalent) may start with the Stage 2 Diploma, which has the same course content and structure as year one of the corresponding Curtin University undergraduate degree. Upon completion of your Diploma, you will progress directly into the second year of your Curtin University Bachelor's degree program.


Stage2 - Diploma of Arts and Creative Industries - Communication, Design and Arts
The Diploma of Arts and Creative Industries leads into the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Communications, Bachelor of Creative Arts or Bachelor of Design. You will learn transferable skills in communication, creativity, critical thinking, digital knowledge, presentation, problem solving, research and teamwork that can be applied to a range of workplaces in the creative industry.

The Bachelor of Arts is a flexible degree where you can tailor your studies to your creative passions and career goals. Our majors combine theoretical study and practical, industry-relevant content, so you graduate confident and ready to launch your career.


Major: English and Cultural Studies
English and Cultural Studies explores how meanings and values are circulated in society through textual forms, cultural conventions and social practices.

If you are interested in cultural texts and social issues; and developing your creative and critical thinking, research and writing skills, this course is for you.

You'll critically analyse contemporary texts, including literature, film, digital and social media, to understand how they encode and reflect cultural traditions.

You'll gain a thorough understanding of how society came to be the way it is today, and how to foster social change for the better.


What you'll learn

  • Identify, explain and apply the key disciplinary concepts in English and Cultural Studies.
  • Apply the theoretical, logical and methodological processes appropriate to issues that exist or arise in the field English and Cultural Studies- this is key to thinking creatively and generating innovative solutions to questions.
  • Access and evaluate the sources, authority and relevance of information and synthesise key facts, themes and ideas in English and Cultural Studies.
  • Communicate ideas to a range of audiences and in a variety of media and genres.
  • Use technologies to access resources, communicate effectively and develop writing and research skills.
  • Use disciplinary skills and knowledge to sustain intellectual curiosity in order to enhance learning strategies and support different intellectual and professional roles required by the broader community.
  • Acknowledge the interrelationship between local, national and global perspectives and apply this to the enhancement of international practices and standards within the discipline.
  • Value a range of cultural knowledge and take care to represent these, where appropriate, in an ethical and professional manner.

    Scholarships

    High Achiever Scholarship

    Covers 15% of any study period when achieved a 70% CWA.

    This scholarship is only for international students. It will not extend to your first year at Curtin University.

     

    Terms and Conditions:

    • This Scholarship is for full fee-paying, non-sponsored international students.
    • This Scholarship is only for international students at Curtin College. It excludes students enrolled in the Masters Qualifying Program (MQP).
    • This Scholarship is available to students who are packaged with Curtin University.
    • The Scholarship amount cannot be withdrawn by the student.
    • This Scholarship covers a maximum of 15% off the tuition fee for the subsequent Curtin College study period when you have achieved a minimum study period weighted average of 70% in your current study period and enrolled in a full-time study load for the current study period according to your study plan.
    • You are required to pay the full tuition fee amount stated on your Letter of Offer and student invoice, the amount of the scholarship will be credited as a refund in your student account if you have deemed eligible by the Curtin College Scholarship Committee.
    • You will not be eligible for the Scholarship if you are in receipt of any other scholarship/bursary/ sponsorship from Curtin College, Curtin University or any other third party. The scholarship can be revoked at the discretion of the College if you already have a scholarship or sponsorship.
    • This Scholarship is not transferable or refundable.
    • The Scholarship must be taken up in the calendar year for which they are offered.
    • This Scholarship can be revoked if you do not accept your Letter of Offer or enrol into your Curtin College and Curtin University course by the dates specified in your Letter of Offer.
    • The Scholarship will not be extended beyond its prescribed duration or amount unless notified otherwise by the College.
    • Curtin College reserves the right to vary or add to any of these terms and conditions at its discretion with adequate notice.


    To retain the scholarship:

    • If you apply for Deferral, you will not be eligible for the scholarship upon your return.
    • If you withdraw, defer or are terminated from your course, you will not be eligible for the continuation of the scholarship.
    • To retain eligibility for the Scholarship (unless there are exceptional circumstances), you must remain enrolled in your initial course at Curtin College and Curtin University (with the exception of your major) according to your study plan and maintain a study period weight average of 65% and pass all units attempted.
    • You must remain enrolled as an international student for the duration of the Scholarship. If your citizenship changes during the Scholarship period, the Scholarship will only be applied to the units you completed as an international student.
    • You must enrol in all units each period according to your approved study plan. which constitutes a maximum of four (4) units of study or a minimum of three (3) units of study.
    • You must not breach the scholarship terms and conditions outlined in this document.
    • You must comply with all other College rules and regulations.

     



    Progression Scholarship :

    CU will give 20% for the entire duratin of the course if achieved 70% CWA. (Undergraduate or Master by coursework).
