Students who have already completed Year 12 (or equivalent) may start with the Stage 2 Diploma, which has the same course content and structure as year one of the corresponding Curtin University undergraduate degree. Upon completion of your Diploma, you will progress directly into the second year of your Curtin University Bachelor's degree program.


Stage2 - Diploma of Arts and Creative Industries - Communication, Design and Arts
The Diploma of Arts and Creative Industries leads into the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Communications, Bachelor of Creative Arts or Bachelor of Design. You will learn transferable skills in communication, creativity, critical thinking, digital knowledge, presentation, problem solving, research and teamwork that can be applied to a range of workplaces in the creative industry.


Leading to: Bachelor of Design
If design is your passion, this flexible degree offers a number of exciting majors that will develop your practical skills in a global context, so you can take your career anywhere in the world.

Throughout the three-year program you will learn through project-based activities and have the opportunity to work together with students from other disciplines, mirroring a real industry environment.

You'll use industry-standard equipment and software, and graduate with a comprehensive portfolio that demonstrates your skills to future employers.


Major: Animation and Game Design
Animators, visual effects artists and video game designers are experts in computer-generated imagery, designing everything from settings and characters to immersive player-driven stories.

In this major you will specialise in the exciting area of animation and game design.

You will explore the latest industry trends and technologies to create compelling experiences to engage your audience.

You'll learn and apply the fundamentals of animation and game design through:

  • Analysing game design content and the latest animated experiences
  • Investigating various industry approaches and techniques for 3D modelling and animation
  • Exploring the design of narrative structures and immersive experiences
  • Developing creative and compelling visuals utilising 3D animation and visual
  • Effects, motion graphics and game related technologies.

You'll also gain experience using up-to-date industry standard software in simulated studio environments.

This major has strong connections to local, national and international animation and digital game industries.

Animation and Game Design is offered as part of the Bachelor of Design. You will be able to enhance your degree by selecting to study either two additional minors or one additional minor and four elective units to support your career goals.

  • Think critically and reflectively to explore animation and communication design solutions
  • Investigate and evaluate a range of solutions to creative problems, using appropriate technologies and investigative techniques
  • Clearly communicate concept, narrative, theme and issues through animated and interactive mediums, and effectively create outcomes appropriate for a wide audience
  • Use appropriate technical skills in the production of interactive or visual narrative communication mediums; use and discern tools and technologies appropriate for the production execution
  • Demonstrate a range of abilities in knowledge acquisition for the production of projects; recognise the importance of self-directed learning for technical and creative projects, and the development of lifelong learning skills
  • Recognise cultural differences for narrative construction for game and animation, and communication of global issues; apply international conventions and standards in individual projects
  • Recognise the significance cultural diversity plays in the construction of narratives; respect individuals from all cultures; apply cultural understanding to narrative-based projects
  • Work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating leadership skills in group projects; demonstrate professional processes and practices for project developments and collaborative environments.

    Scholarships

    High Achiever Scholarship

    Covers 15% of any study period when achieved a 70% CWA.

    This scholarship is only for international students. It will not extend to your first year at Curtin University.

     

    Terms and Conditions:

    • This Scholarship is for full fee-paying, non-sponsored international students.
    • This Scholarship is only for international students at Curtin College. It excludes students enrolled in the Masters Qualifying Program (MQP).
    • This Scholarship is available to students who are packaged with Curtin University.
    • The Scholarship amount cannot be withdrawn by the student.
    • This Scholarship covers a maximum of 15% off the tuition fee for the subsequent Curtin College study period when you have achieved a minimum study period weighted average of 70% in your current study period and enrolled in a full-time study load for the current study period according to your study plan.
    • You are required to pay the full tuition fee amount stated on your Letter of Offer and student invoice, the amount of the scholarship will be credited as a refund in your student account if you have deemed eligible by the Curtin College Scholarship Committee.
    • You will not be eligible for the Scholarship if you are in receipt of any other scholarship/bursary/ sponsorship from Curtin College, Curtin University or any other third party. The scholarship can be revoked at the discretion of the College if you already have a scholarship or sponsorship.
    • This Scholarship is not transferable or refundable.
    • The Scholarship must be taken up in the calendar year for which they are offered.
    • This Scholarship can be revoked if you do not accept your Letter of Offer or enrol into your Curtin College and Curtin University course by the dates specified in your Letter of Offer.
    • The Scholarship will not be extended beyond its prescribed duration or amount unless notified otherwise by the College.
    • Curtin College reserves the right to vary or add to any of these terms and conditions at its discretion with adequate notice.


    To retain the scholarship:

    • If you apply for Deferral, you will not be eligible for the scholarship upon your return.
    • If you withdraw, defer or are terminated from your course, you will not be eligible for the continuation of the scholarship.
    • To retain eligibility for the Scholarship (unless there are exceptional circumstances), you must remain enrolled in your initial course at Curtin College and Curtin University (with the exception of your major) according to your study plan and maintain a study period weight average of 65% and pass all units attempted.
    • You must remain enrolled as an international student for the duration of the Scholarship. If your citizenship changes during the Scholarship period, the Scholarship will only be applied to the units you completed as an international student.
    • You must enrol in all units each period according to your approved study plan. which constitutes a maximum of four (4) units of study or a minimum of three (3) units of study.
    • You must not breach the scholarship terms and conditions outlined in this document.
    • You must comply with all other College rules and regulations.

     



    Progression Scholarship :

    CU will give 20% for the entire duratin of the course if achieved 70% CWA. (Undergraduate or Master by coursework).
