Program Overview

An ECC Diploma is your direct pathway to a bachelor’s degree
A Diploma from ECC is equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree at Edith Cowan University. Upon successful completion of your Diploma, you will be able to progress directly into the second year of your chosen Bachelor’s degree at ECU. Choose to start your Diploma studies here in Perth or online from overseas.

Diploma of Health Science
Diploma of Health Science (Year 1) is designed to enhance your learning experience, and provide you with the underpinning knowledge necessary to prepare you for studies in Nursing or health related fields at university level.

Diploma of Health Science (Year 2) introduces you to the biological, social and cultural elements involved in health care. It is specially designed for students who wish to major in Nursing, Biomedical Science or Psychology. Students who complete the ECC Diploma of Health Science (Year 2) will be eligible for admission to a range of Health Science degrees at ECU. The range of credits granted varies depending upon the degree you choose. A minimum of 50% pass in all units is required for progression to ECU.

Bachelor of Science (Biomedical Science)
Biomedical science is a continually changing, dynamic field with long-term career prospects, including roles in management, research, education and specialised laboratory work.

Biomedical scientists focus on how cells, organs and systems function in the human body. Their work is an important element in our understanding and treatment of human diseases.

This course introduces a broad range of theory, including studies in anatomy, physiology, microbiology, immunology, genetics, biochemistry and biomedical ethics, while giving you extensive practical experience in cutting edge laboratories, located in our purpose-built $50m Science building.

As a Biomedical Science graduate, you can also continue on to specialise in one of these fields: medical science, medical microbiology, genetics, haematology, histopathology, anthropology, cytology, human biology, immunology, medicine, nutrition science, biochemistry, data science, clinical chemistry or evolutionary medicine.

Major: Forensic Science
This Forensic Science major can be studied under the Bachelor of Science (Biomedical Science) and combines specialised forensic studies within the physical and biomedical sciences that underpin forensic investigations.

Students focus on techniques, issues and challenges in forensic science, and develop a holistic approach that spans evidence collection, testing and analysis techniques, and prosecution. Students study in state-of-the-art facilities and forensic laboratories, including the ECU Health Simulation Centre where simulated crime scenes provide practical experience that is as close as you can get to real-word investigations. This major is developed in consultation with industry and students have opportunities to hear from professionals in the forensic field, so you learn the practical skills employers are looking for. The specialised forensic science instruction, combined with the broad biomedical science knowledge and skills learned, opens doors to a broad range of careers.
