Program Overview

As a social worker, you’ll help people to overcome difficulties and improve their lives.  At Booth University College, we offer a demanding program with a strong focus on clinical practice. When you leave here, you’ll be ready to stand with the best in the field.

Social work is a challenging and rewarding profession. Our program will prepare you to overcome challenges and facilitate change. We continuously seek input from professionals in the field to ensure our curriculum reflects the current realities of practice.

We combine theory with experiential learning. Assignments are grounded in current theories, and simulate real-world expectations. Small class sizes allow for more advanced learning opportunities, because instructors can devote time to your learning and evaluation. You’ll learn from faculty who have extensive experience in social work.

Social work is a broad field. From the start, you’ll be encouraged to share your interests and engage in conversations that help you explore areas of practice that are most exciting for you.

Practicum Experience

During your time in the program, expect to gain at least 700 hours of practical field experience. When you graduate, you'll be prepared for practice in a variety of settings. Our emphasis on practical learning makes our graduates highly sought. Many are offered employment from their practicum placements. We have a unique approach to practicum placement. Our faculty are liaisons for all placements. Our field education coordinator works with you to find experiences that align with your passions and career goals.

Accreditation

Our social work program is a well-respected and sought-after program in Manitoba. We are an approved program with the Manitoba College of Social Workers (MCSW). Our graduates qualify to complete the Associated Social Work Boards Practice Exam to become a Registered Social Worker in Manitoba. Our success in preparing students for this exam has placed Booth University College in the top spot for completion rates in Canada.

Although we are not accredited by the Canadian Association of Social Work Educators (CASWE), many of our graduates have gone on to register as social workers and practice across Canada.
