The Faculty of Human and Social Sciences (FHSS) offers many opportunities to explore complex issues relevant to today’s society. Students will learn to identify and explore social issues and build real-world connections between what they learn in class and the downtown community just outside the classroom door. You are encouraged to develop your critical thinking skills and question assumptions, while the theoretical knowledge and practical experience you’ll gain through our programs will prepare you for a variety of careers. Faculty of Human and Social Science students are passionate about making a positive contribution both locally and globally and graduate with the skills to change the world.


During the UTP Stage II: Human and Social Sciences program you will study courses that provide a pathway to a wide range of disciplines including Community Health, Health Administration, Criminology, and Psychology. Below is a sample of the courses that you might take during the program.

Game Design and Development (Honours BA)
Fun and games in the classroom? This is Game Design and Development (GDD) at Laurier.

Learn to communicate through playful and immersive experiences such as video games, board games and escape rooms. Create gameplay that pushes the medium forward, exploring, expanding and innovating how games engage players and represent diverse viewpoints as you create cozy, meaningful and transformative games.

Develop in-demand job skills including creativity, writing and visual design, critical thinking, problem solving and iterative design processes. Combine technical and creative writing with the fundamentals of programming and art to create functional prototypes while preparing to work with a multifaceted development team in the game industry.

WLIC Entrance Scholarship

Scholarships Amount Terms and Conditions Scholarship available Intakes for Deadlines

WLIC is thrilled to announce a new 4-year, $20,000 scholarship.

  1. WLIC $5,000 (WLIC entrance scholarship)
  2. Year 2 $5,000 (automatic International In-Course Scholarship)
  3. Year 3 $5,000 (International In-Course Scholarship, GPA of ~ 70)
  4. Year 4 $5,000 (International In-Course Scholarship, GPA of ~ 70)

WLIC Entrance Scholarship

  • The scholarship cannot be combined with any other offers.
  • The scholarship can only be applicable as a tuition credit at WLIC and has no cash value.
  • The scholarship is for one of Foundation (UTP Stage I) OR International Year One (UTP Stage II) students only.
  • Must be a full-time, continuing student to qualify.
  • $2,500 CAD will be applied after week 4 of the 2nd semester and $2,500 CAD will be applied after week 4 of the 3rd semester of your studies at WLIC.

International In-Course Scholarship 

  • Students transferring from Wilfrid Laurier International College are automatically considered for the in-course scholarship upon entry and are not eligible for entrance grid scholarships.
  • Students must register for a full-time course load (2.0 credits) in two terms of an academic year (September – August).
  • Recipients must pay international tuition fees. Students who are exempted from international tuition are eligible for the domestic in-course scholarship.
  • A minimum grade point average of 7.0 must be achieved in the immediately preceding academic year.
  • International in-course in combination with the entrance scholarship can total a maximum of $20,000 in a student’s academic career. The WLIC $5,000 entrance scholarship will be considered part of the $20,000 total.
  • Exceptions to maximum award values and years applicable can be made at the discretion of the Associate Registrar Student Finance and Client Services.
