Program Overview

Pre-Master’s One Semester Programme

The Pre-master’s one semester programme at the University of Canterbury provides an accelerated pathway into postgraduate study for international students who hold a bachelor’s degree but do not meet master's entry requirements. Upon completion of the pre-master’s programme, you will be guaranteed entry to a range of master’s degrees across Business, Engineering, Science, Health, Education, and Arts disciplines.

The pathway comprises one semester of coursework that prepares you generally for postgraduate study at UC, including courses that develop skills and knowledge in cultural and bicultural awareness, communication, critical thinking, and data analysis.

UC's Pre-master’s one semester programme is delivered exclusively by our dedicated on-campus UC International College (UCIC).
Completing the Pre-master’s one semester programme guarantees entry to your master’s degree programme at UC.

Pathway to: Master of Business Information Systems

Information Systems is a fast-expanding industry and the point where business studies and information technology meet. Information systems are a major part of many organisations and impact business operations on a day-to-day basis through mobile phones, EFTPOS, news, and the internet. As a result there has been an increasing demand for 'tech-savvy' people to create and run these systems.

UC's Master of Business Information Systems (MBIS) aims to address high-level skills shortages in the rapidly growing ICT industry, and to meet the growing demand for work-ready graduates in Aotearoa New Zealand and abroad. The MBIS equips graduates, including those from a non-Information Systems or Commerce background, with specialist knowledge and skills applicable to managing the use of technology and technology-driven innovations in business.
