Progression from Foundation

The Law pathway subjects prepare students for law degrees at Keele are informed by research and offer a critical approach to legal education in an enriched, inclusive environment, involving a range of professional activities and support. You will be able to go on to train as a solicitor or barrister following graduation, or prepare for a legal career of your choice from a range of options.

The Humanities and Social Sciences subjects are focused on the ways in which we engage with one another as human beings in contexts ranging from the local to the global. The research and teaching at Keele University focuses on the varied dimensions of human experience and on the full range of cultural, economic and social challenges we face in a fast-changing world.

Leading to Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Geography and Sociology

Tackle contemporary global geographical challenges and explore the spatial dynamics of human behaviours whilst exploring the core concepts of sociology and important social issues. We are committed to innovative, imaginative, and problem-solving approaches, allowing you to develop independent and critical thinking skills to prepare you for a variety of careers.

Studying a combined honours in geography and sociology enables you to consider some of today's global challenges such as climate change whilst developing your imaginative thinking and creative awareness around social injustice. Geography is uniquely positioned between the physical and social sciences enabling geographers to provide broad-ranging perspectives on a range of key societal challenges. The flexibility of our programme enables you to explore the full breadth and depth of this dynamic discipline.

The geography component of this programme enables you to explore the spatial interactions between human behaviours and society and the inter-relationships between the environment and political, economic and social forces. Our focus on climate change, global responsibility, sustainability, and the application of professional geographical skills to real-world situations will prepare you for a wide range of careers and for life as a responsible global citizen. You'll undertake a range of geography modules which encourage you to consider themes such as space and society whilst having the flexibility to tailor your studies through our optional modules.

Sociology focuses on the study of cultures, communities and identities and explores how our everyday lives intersect with contemporary digital environments. You will engage with the topical issues facing us today as a result of technological evolution, from changes to work life balance, to migration and the social challenges posed by an increasingly unstable climate.

As you cultivate an increased awareness of social inequalities, you will grapple with a range of significant sociological issues such as class, gender, migration, family, belief, and belonging. You are encouraged to adopt an analytical approach, evaluate theories and explanations, and construct fair arguments grounded in both data and your own critical thinking. Being able to interrogate contemporary social landscapes and appreciate the nuances of different perspectives will enable you to apply these skills beyond university.
