Program Overview

The Pre-Master's is a two-term programme that prepares you to succeed in a postgraduate degree at Cardiff University. There are two routes to choose from, with sub-routes within them related to your chosen degree subject. You will study a combination of English language preparation and subject-specific content, and progress to a master's degree when you complete the programme.

Business, Economics, Social Sciences and Humanities
Work towards studying your master’s degree in a wide range of subjects including Business Management, Education, Journalism and Sustainability, Planning and Environmental Policy. There are three routes: Business Management, Social Sciences and Humanities, and Human Geography and Planning.

International Public Relations and Global Communications Management
Public relations is a booming industry and has continued to grow year-on-year. The numbers of Public Relations Officers (PROs) now match journalists in the UK and there is a big demand for graduates who have the skills to meet the dynamic changes of this exciting and growing sector.
Public relations specialisms are expanding too, and graduates are gaining jobs in a number of areas including crisis management, corporate social responsibility, media relations, corporate communication, sponsorship and internal communication.
The MA International Public Relations and Global Communications Management is a unique one year course that develops the skills and techniques required to practice public relations and communications at an international level.
Public relations, at its heart, is about communication between an organisation and its public(s), but 21st century public relations - with the advent of new media - is embedded in everything from politics and business to celebrity. PR is now firmly at the heart of strategic organisational planning.
Aside from gaining valuable practical skills, you are introduced to business, organisational and PR theory so that you can apply critical thinking to professional scenarios to further the effectiveness and quality of public relations that is practiced in industry. This synthesis of theory and practice culminates in a final dissertation of 15,000 to 20,000 words where you have the opportunity to apply what you have learnt to an area of personal PR interest. This piece of advanced academic study would enable you to embark on further research in the field of international public relations, should you wish to do so.
